EY’s Blockchain Assurance Research Lead. Member of the Financial Services Office audit practice in San Francisco, serving asset management clients such as hedge funds, private equity and venture capital firms. Over the last five years, developed an expertise in audit and compliance procedures as they relate to funds and exchanges dealing in cryptocurrency. Leads the EY Americas Blockchain Center of Excellence, a team within EY dedicated to supporting Assurance and Advisory engagements. As specialists, this team leverages a technical understanding of distributed ledger technologies to service the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem. Regularly works with regulators in jurisdictions across the globe and key industry groups to share knowledge and develop best practices concerning accounting treatment, auditing strategies, and valuation of crypto assets. Before working in industry, received a PhD from the University of California, Davis in Philosophy with a focus in cognitive science, teaching courses such as Minds, Brains, and Computers. Also taught for Santa Clara University and the University of San Francisco, receiving a Bachelors in Accounting. Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of California.

Derek is Director for Asia, and is responsible for leading the firm’s growth in this region. He supports the regulatory needs of investment firms operating locally and within other jurisdictions, including the UK and US, that seek to enter into and operate in the Asia-Pacific market.
Before relocating to Hong Kong, Derek was involved in the development of risk-based compliance frameworks for hedge funds, most recently during the introduction of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) in Europe.
Prior to the acquisition by ACA, Derek was Managing Director at Cordium Asia. He specialised in assisting with the integration of global requirements, having spent 10 years based in New York and London. Derek was also a Compliance and Risk Executive at F&C Asset Management, a London investment management firm. He gained further experience in compliance at Davy Stockbrokers, a leading brokerage in Dublin.
Derek received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Law, and a Masters in Law from University College Dublin. Derek is on AIMA’s APAC Education Committee in Hong Kong and has led and participated in various industry consultations in the UK, including Commissions Unbundling (2006) and MiFID II (2010). He has also lectured on Compliance with the Henley Business School Certificate in Hedge Funds.

Noah Silverman holds a PhD in statistics from UCLA, and has worked with data and technology for over 20 years.

The focus of Dr. Silverman’s work is on developing probabilistic models for complex and stochastic systems.

Some of his specialties include complex predictive modeling, hierarchical Bayesian models, machine learning, nonlinear classifiers, support vector machines, gaussian processes, and natural language processing. He has published several papers on mathematical modeling of complex data systems with innovative analysis methods. In addition, he has developed successful solutions for a large number of clients in Finance, Digital Advertising, Sports Betting, crypto-currency, Education, Medical, and other industries. Prior to consulting, he conceptualized and founded several technology firms including webclipping.com and trademarktracker.com.

Recently, Dr. Silverman has been developing a few cryptocurrency and blockchain related projects that are currently in stealth-mode.

Mr Stead is the Managing Director of the Singapore office which was established in June 2006.
From 1995 – 2005 he was Managing Director and Head of Global Fund Services at HSBC
Institutional Trust Services (Singapore) Limited (formerly Bermuda Trust (Singapore) Limited)
which provided Trustee, Custody, and Fund Administration Services to some 500 investment
vehicles and funds with an AUM of US$40 billion including Retail Unit Trusts, Pension Plans,
REITs, Hedge Funds, Fund of Funds, and Private Equity Funds.
From 1985 to 1995 he held senior positions at the Bank of Bermuda in the Global Fund Services
division firstly in Bermuda, then Luxembourg and finally Hong Kong before relocating to
Singapore. Prior to joining the Bank of Bermuda he held various positions in the accountancy
profession in England and Africa.
Mr Stead has a degree in Management Sciences from UMIST in England; he is a Fellow of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a Chartered Financial Analyst
charterholder and a member of the Institutes of Directors in the United Kingdom and
Singapore.
